Rooted in a legacy of refined craftsmanship, this organization drive to keep the Bahamian culture alive

BJAM‑DC was created to bring the Bahamian diaspora together. The organization was formed several years ago during an annual Embassy gathering for Bahamian students and working professionals in the DC Metro area. From the beginning, our mission has been to share the rich cultural heritage of the Bahama Islands — its art, music, poetry, and community spirit.

BJam‑DC was inspired by the late Ambassador Joshua Sears and his family, whose commitment to cultural unity helped shape the foundation of this group.

Costumes were created and designed by Junkanoo veterans residing in Maryland: Yves Barrett and Anthony Butler. Additional creative contributions came from Frederick Charlton and Cortez Bowles.
